Land Trusts as Recreation Partners: Walk & Talk at Pompadour Bluff

Join staff members from Southern Oregon Land Conservancy, Oregon’s first regional land trust, for a casual hike and chat to learn about what land trusts do and how they can serve as partners in developing and maintaining outdoor recreation opportunities. We’ll also discuss community-centered conservation, and how this exciting approach to conservation can open new pathways for inclusive and accessible connection with the land. Along the trail, we’ll also share cultural and natural history of Pompadour Bluff, a 55-acre preserve with an iconic cliff formation that was donated to SOLC in 2020. Expect a gentle-paced out-and-back hike to the top of the Bluff, with plenty of stops to learn and chat.
We will carpool/caravan to the preserve, which is a 5-minute drive from the conference venue. The trail is less than a mile each way. The first 0.2 miles is on a gravel road with an average grade of 14%. The rest of the trail is 12-18” wide on native soil and rocks, and it switchbacks up the back side of the Bluff with an average grade of approximately 8% including some steep, sharp turns. Total elevation gain is about 450’.
