Geologic Discoveries at Pompadour Bluff

  • Harry & Marilyn Fisher Preserve at Pompadour Bluff Dead Indian Memorial Road Ashland, OR 97520 (map)

REGISTRATION opens on April 28 at 6 a.m.

Ancient braided stream deposits are magnificently exposed at Pompadour Bluff. How old are those sediments, how do we know, where did they come from, why does the bluff extend above the landscape, and what geologic mysteries remain? Also explored is a younger iron-rich igneous “sill”, with interesting weathering features, injected after the rocks at Pompadour Bluff were consolidated. Tilting of Pompadour Bluff and small fault features belie post-depositional events that affected the entire region. Emeritus Professor of Geology Dr. Jad D'Allura will take you on an exploratory hike of this geographic landmark east of Ashland.

In 2021 we were honored to be gifted an iconic landmark of the southern Bear Creek Valley, The Harry & Marilyn Fisher Preserve at Pompadour Bluff. Harry Fisher bequeathed this 55-acre property to SOLC in his will. Read more about what makes this scenic place so special and how you can support its conservation.
