Forest and Resource Management on the Parsons Property
Join OSU Extension Center, Jackson Josephine Small Woodlands Association and SOLC for a personal tour of a small working forest located on the Howard Prairie plateau. Owner, Jud Parsons, and forester, Marty Main, will lead attendees on this tour looking at the historical context of the property and management of the working forest to achieve multiple values including forest health, wildlife habitat, protection and enhancement of important wetlands and accelerating development of older forest conditions and values through various silvicultural practices.

If you ever peer into a half-rotted log you might be so lucky to find a slippery pair of eyes staring back at you. If you’re extremely lucky those eyes could belong to a Pacific giant salamander (Dicamptodon tenebrosus). Usually seen wriggling through woody debris or eating a mildly toxic banana slug, these marbled beauties are found throughout western Oregon.
