Help protect the biodiversity of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument on a privately protected property by removing yellow starthistle along Pilot Rock Road. A short wildflower hike will be offered during the work party. We’ll be joined by the wonderful members of a NCCC AmeriCorps crew. Carpool from the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy office at 84 Fourth Street, leaving at 9 am. Bring snacks, water, and your favorite gloves (we have extra of each).

If you ever peer into a half-rotted log you might be so lucky to find a slippery pair of eyes staring back at you. If you’re extremely lucky those eyes could belong to a Pacific giant salamander (Dicamptodon tenebrosus). Usually seen wriggling through woody debris or eating a mildly toxic banana slug, these marbled beauties are found throughout western Oregon.
