Landmark, Legacy, and Life Member Event

  • 16534 Indian Memorial Rd Ashland United States (map)

Please reserve by July 1st!

We are honored to invite you to a fabulous lunch and walk at a stunning location on Howard Prairie. A prior landmark member event explored the meadow and forests at “lower” Vesper Meadow. This year, we will also offer a chance to view SOLC’s newest addition to conserved lands, featuring intact prairie, headwater streams, aspen, forests, and a plethora of native flowers at the 389-acre “upper” Vesper Meadow. Hidden amongst the grasses, the very rare Oregon Vesper Sparrow nests and rears young. Event activities will include learning about the dynamic habitat restoration work and Tribal collaboration in progress at the lower meadow or hiking the spectacular upper meadow.

On Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with the option of one of two timeslots), members who give $500 or more each year, or who are conservation easement donors, will have the opportunity to tour the meadow and learn more about these unique lands. The Upper Vesper Meadow stroll has an approximate distance of 1 mile. Follow the boundary of the forest to view the expansive meadow. This hike has some minor elevation gain and will take place off-trail. The Lower Vesper Meadow stroll has an approximate distance of 0.75 miles. Meander through the forest and down to Latgawa Creek to see restoration projects inspired by nature. This hike has some minor elevation gain and will partially be off-trail.

If you would like to join us for lunch only and skip the hike, you are welcome to hang out with Executive Director Steve Wise and Philanthropy Directory Jade Chavis for a bit to chat about the land and current projects while enjoying a catered lunch from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. To register for this, select the "Lunch Only" ticket.

Carpooling will be highly important for this event. There will be an option to drive or ride in the registration questions so that we can pre-arrange the vehicles. If you have someone you would specifically like to ride with, feel free to email that request to events@landconserve.org. Otherwise we will contact you shortly before the event to arrange the carpool.

Due to limited parking and the sensitive nature of intact prairie, all participants must register and we ask that you please select just one stroll. All strolls are automatically invited to join us for lunch so no need to register for a separate ticket.

Saturday, July 8 options:

10:00 am – 11:00 am Stroll the Upper Meadow OR the Lower Meadow

11:00 am - 12:00 pm Catered Lunch

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Stroll the Upper Meadow OR the Lower Meadow

Because of limited capacity, we encourage Landmark and Life donors to register early for the start time of their choice. The RSVP deadline is July 1st. We will send a confirmation email with directions to those who RSVP. Call us at 541-482-3069 or email events@landconserve.org if you have any questions or need assistance.

If you are interested in becoming a Landmark Member or need to check your membership status, contact Jade Chavis 541-482-3069, ext. 104 or jade@landconserve.org for more information.
