Grizzly Peak Fire: Nature’s Restoration Program
Grizzly Peak was recently visited by fire, a common occurrence in and around the Rogue Valley. Fire is a necessary ecosystem process; it maintains forest health and diversity. It is Mother Nature’s “disturbance” of choice, particularly in our Mediterranean climate; but, fire and its effects are often misrepresented.
Nature has her own restoration program and the Grizzly Peak fire was not her first. Make your own assessment of nature’s restoration program. The field trip will include carpooling. Bring a snack or sack lunch. Please contact Tom Atzet at 541-955-9529 for more info.
Dr. Tom Atzet has served on the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy Board of Directors for five years. Dr Atzet has analyzed ecological issues in Southwest Oregon since 1974. He has worked in both forest operations and research.
